Okay I love Modern Family - I think it is one of the funniest, innovative comedies out there, as I have written before, and I don't agree one bit with this shot over the sitcom's bow from the Washington Times, which ran a story under the headline: 'Modern Family' closing out a disappointing second season.
The bile continues, "For all the “TV’s best comedy” talk surrounding “Modern Family,” the show’s second season hasn’t nearly lived up to the often-hilarious ensemble show audiences were introduced to last year. While “Family” has shown streaks of capturing the first season’s brilliance, the sophomore effort has been wildly inconsistent, at best.
"Sometimes, the show seems as if it would work better as “The Dunphys,” focusing primarily on Claire, Phil and the kids, with Cam and Mitch as the secondary story and the occasional pop-in from Jay, Gloria and Manny."
This is the Washing Times, not the much-revered Washington Post; the Times is a hardline, right-wing newspaper, and I believe this sting probably has more to do with the homophobia in their party-of-choice's platform than any legitimate tube criticism. They don't approve of the old guy marrying the beautiful minority half his age, or the gay couple that adopted the Vietnamese infant. They want the spotlight on the white family -- what a surprise coming from them. (Dislcosure: I am 100 percent white.)
As a corrective, read this delightful piece on the second-season finale -- and there will be a third season despite what the WT thinks.
