Re-election should be done away with. Elected officials should serve one term; that term should be lengthened by 50% of what it is now. For instance, the president of the U.S.A. would serve one six-year term.
If we take re-election out of the picture, hopefully public officials would then worry less about winning their next term and will focus more on doing the right thing, his party and voting demographic be damned.
What's wrong with that? Can anyone tell me? We all know the number-one duty of all elected officials is to get re-elected. Freeing them of that -- sets them free to do what they think is the right thing, not what they expect others want them to do for self-serving reasons.
All of them in Washington, D.C., and Albany, etc., could take a page from the man whose biography is included in this post.
